NIRVANA - Reading Festival (1992)   Print  E-mail

"Live At Reading" is a poorish quality dupe of a classic and historic Nirvana performance. First, the good - it's one of the last full length Nirvana shows by the three-piece band before they expanded lineup for the final 'In Utereo' tour. The setlist is crammed full of great material from their first two albums, a large chunk of B-sides, previews of 'In Utereo', and a couple of rare cover ver€sions. Performance wise, the band are vibrant and powerful.

The bad? It's sourced from an old VHS tape. There is a logo that obtrusively invades the top left corner, like an old cable TV channel that insists on letting you know what channel is on. And the main problem is that there is a massive, and unsophisticated 'Song Title' banner that runs the entire length of the show in exactly the same place a non-broadcast time code might. It's ugly and mars the experience.

Overall though, this DVD is a interesting snapshot of 93 minutes in Nirvana's existence and worth picking it up if you spot it at a reasonable price.
