JULIA MARCELL - It Might Like You   Print  E-mail

Sounds like... no one but herself, thankfully..

... in a genre of female singery-songwriters it's hard to stand out and carve a niche for yourself both individual and accessable. Julia Marshall has a fine ear for melody, a sound that veers between Regina Specktor and Tori Amos, and compelling material that seems as if it will reveal a new layer with each listen. The sound is a fairly stark palette of instrumentation that moves away from the 'usual' combination of bass, guitar and drums to create a haunted individual style. There's no doubt she has the ability and vision to grow into a major artist over time. This is a fine album of great promise, hopefully the first chapter in a long story that will blossom over time.
