Chainsaws, Zombies and One Liners. Hail to the King Baby!
The Evil Dead trilogy cut themselves out as trendsetters, and Evil Dead II is the big bad granddaddy of cheesy Horror-comedies. It's a seminal, cult classic. Now on picture sharp DVD, its essentially a remake of the first film with a bigger budget, better effects, more blood (or is it ketchup?), and enough jokes to fill a Airplane movie.
Our hero is Ash, a man with a chainsaw, a manic grin and a one-liner for every occasion, taking on the attacks of the undead, zombies, trees, possessed cars and his later ego all while holed up in a remote cabin somewhere in America. Filled with nightmarish imagery and coming from Sam Raimi, the inventor of much imitated `shakycam' with this film , Evil Dead II is more than just an excellent movie : It's a laugh a minute gore-a-thon. It's not for the churchgoing among you, but best enjoyed in the company of a lot of friends , an irreverent attitude and a sense of humour. If you call yourself a horror fan If you haven't seen this movie, you haven't lived.
The DVD naturally comes with a commentary by Bruce Campbell, who plays Ash - why isnt this guy a stand up comedian? - and that justifies the price of the disc alone. factor in a 27 minute making of called "The Gore the Merrier".
Brilliant. Now, get the director a Spider Man movie! Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. Powered by AkoComment 1.0 beta 2! |
